Electric Buddy privacy policy

Find charging stations, compare charging levels and estimate charging costs.

This policy describes Electric Buddy’s iOS beta and public website. No account is required. The current beta uses test advertising and does not offer account or cross-device synchronization.

Your location and searches

Location access is requested when you tap “Use my location.” The app uses foreground location to find nearby charging stations. You can decline permission and search by city or ZIP instead. Location coordinates are sent to Electric Buddy’s Cloudflare-hosted pricing service, which queries OpenStreetMap Overpass and Open Charge Map for nearby station records. Search results are cached for 15 minutes; station records are retained for up to 30 days. We do not store a history of your personal searches. Typed searches are sent to Nominatim. These services receive the request and network information such as your IP address. We do not run background location tracking.

Maps and directions

Google Maps displays maps and station pins and receives map requests and associated device/network information. Where the Google map is unconfigured, the preview uses OpenStreetMap tiles. Opening directions passes the station’s destination to your selected navigation app. That app manages its own location permissions and privacy practices.

Saved stations and prices

Bookmarks, vehicle charging limits entered for the session and private rate entries are used to personalize your comparison. Bookmarks and private rate entries are stored locally on your device. Private prices expire after seven days. We do not upload these saved records to an Electric Buddy account. You can remove bookmarks and private rates in the app, or remove local app data by uninstalling the app. Web preview data can be removed through browser site-data controls.

Shared price reports

Sharing a price is optional and off by default. A shared report includes the station, USD rate, session fee, billing unit and observation time. It becomes visible to other drivers without your name. A randomly generated device key permits you to withdraw reports from the same device; the server stores only its hash. Reports stop being used for comparisons after seven days and are removed from the active database within 31 days. Withdrawn reports are immediately excluded from results. The service stores daily salted hashes of network addresses and request counters for abuse prevention, removed within three days. It does not store raw IP addresses in its application database; Cloudflare may process network metadata under its own policies. Do not submit personal information in a report. Removing local device data also removes the key needed to withdraw your reports; contact support if needed.

Advertising and consent

Electric Buddy integrates Google AdMob and Google’s User Messaging Platform. The consent service is contacted to determine whether an ad request is allowed, and required consent forms are shown when available. If consent cannot be established, ads remain off. Ad privacy choices are available from “How it works” when Google requires them. The beta requests Google test banners only, configured as non-personalized. We do not pass station searches or precise location to the ad SDK. The SDK may process IP address, device information, ad interactions and diagnostics. This build does not request Apple’s tracking permission or intentionally access the advertising identifier for tracking. Ads never change station rankings or deal calculations.

Service providers

Read Google’s privacy policy, how Google uses information from apps, the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy, and Open Charge Map terms and privacy information. Cloudflare hosts this page and the shared-pricing service and may process request metadata to deliver and secure it. Apple may provide TestFlight crash reports and feedback under its testing services.

Retention and your choices

Local bookmarks remain until removed; service providers retain their data under their respective policies. You can revoke location access in iOS Settings and use city search. If you contact support, we use your message and reply address to respond and retain correspondence as needed to resolve the request. Do not include sensitive information that is not needed for support.

Children

Electric Buddy is intended for drivers and is not directed to children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information through support.

Contact support@broadwaypixels.com. Include “Electric Buddy” and your app version when reporting a problem. Never use the app while driving.

Station data attribution

Station details identify their data provider and link to the original record. Open Charge Map contributor data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. AFDC data is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy and its national laboratory partners. OpenStreetMap contributors supply additional map and station data. Electric Buddy normalizes these records, combines matching locations, and separately adds published tariffs and driver reports; the original providers do not endorse these changes.

Beta data limitations

Demo stations and prices are fictional. Real stations may have incomplete details, and availability is not live. Selected published operator tariffs and unverified driver reports support price comparisons. Open Charge Map listings may contain older price notes, displayed separately without treating them as current quotes. Confirm rates, compatibility and access with the charging operator before traveling. Estimates exclude unentered fees and real-world charging slowdowns.

Feedback and price update requests

Submitting a request sends its type, station reference when applicable, message, and optional reply email to our Cloudflare-hosted service. These requests are visible only to authorized administrators. We retain request messages and contact details for up to 181 days; reviewed rates and a minimal review audit may remain as pricing provenance. A daily salted hash of your network address is used to limit abuse and expires within three days. Administrators sign in through Cloudflare Access; only the configured owner account is authorized. We do not publish your contact email or request text. Contact support for removal requests.

This website

Electricbuddy.org provides a live station finder, product information, guides, and a charging cost calculator. The station finder uses the search and pricing providers described above. Website location-name searches are cached for up to 24 hours; this cache is not linked to a user profile. Calculator inputs are processed in your browser and are not sent to our pricing service. The home page, charging guide, and calculator load Google AdSense to support this free project. Google may process IP address, browser/device details, cookies, and ad interactions. Ad requests use restricted data processing. Google’s consent message offers Consent, Do not consent, and Manage options where European regulations apply. An Ad privacy choices button appears when Google’s consent API is available. We do not send calculator inputs, station searches, or precise location as advertising targeting parameters. The station finder currently loads no website advertising scripts. We do not use a separate website analytics script. Cloudflare processes network requests to host and secure the site. If you follow a contribution link, the payment provider will handle payment information under its own privacy policy; do not send payment details to our support email. Ad serving depends on Google’s site approval and available inventory.
